I can never seem to leave my 3D stuff alone... It's becoming a habit for me to mess with details even on something that may have considered a success and a completed model not long ago.
Here I have taken what I've learned whilst making my tanks and applying them to my Yamato model in an effort to make up for any faults that I found difficult to deal with back while I was learning how to 3D with SketchUp.
For starters the improvements done to the icon are as follows:
Deeper color scheme that is more accurate with not only the original series but the live action movie, the rebirth anime, and the most successful 2199 retelling of the story.
A new more accurate Captain's Quarters / Crow's nest.
A more substantial bridge tower neck to support the flight deck, and crow's nest that wouldn't look like it would snap in half from being sneezed at
A total redo for the atmospheric flight engines.
A total make-over for the iconic Wave Motion Gun - Hado ho - that now consists of a complex triangulated component that blends with the armored iris better than being a simple straight extrusion that was scaled and tapered nearest the iris.
Less noticeable are the improvements to the anti-aircraft batteries.
And finally another major improvement over the original was a nearly full rescaling of the "Shock Cannon" turrets. The originals were slightly too large for the deck mounts and in my own defense I had no clue they were over-sized when I made them, but now with more experience working in 3D, that subtle fact became more and more noticed by me the more I worked to improve this model! Only the gun tubes have remained unchanged, still featuring the iconic 18-inch or 460mm bore that was the heart of Yamato's historic and sci-fi punch besides the aforementioned Hado-ho... Everything else about the Shock Turrets were scaled own and now when zoomed out to a moderate distance, the overall appearance of the Yamato looks more proportioned.
Depending if I can find the time to, I have plans to make a replica of the 2199 variant of Yamato, as well as perhaps the live action movie variant as well, but this hinges on whether I can grow further as a sketchup artist because either the live action or the 2199 Yamato are more complex than my simple original series Leiji Matsumoto variant... From another old work in progress submission fav.me/d3d6dhv you can see that my interpretation of Leiji's original was a simple extrusion based model, starting at the bow and working my way back to the stern, but 2199 and the live-action Yamato have more compound curves to the hull that simple extrusions cannot easily replicate, even with the help of extensions.. so to tackle the live-action and 2199, I need to figure out how to make templates and cross-sections to construct the hull around, and with either ship, it looks like construction will be a tedious process of hand stitching lines.. something that I avoid like the plague!
Anyhow that's Yamato, then and now, and I hope you guys enjoy this?
Incidentally the Warehouse is being a total derp right now for me, and I can only submit models via FireFox and the alternate front-side interface similar to what dA's Stash uses.. drag and drop.. name it.. add descriptions.. post it and share it.. but when I do that, I need to rely on whoever collected my models to do this every time I update something.. and that's a pain in the whut whut... So I may only post my updated Yamato once I'm satisfied with it and I don't plan to make any further updates to it... but by then I'm probably working on the 2199 and live-action versions. XDDD Anyhow yeah.. this updated Yamato model by me will be posted to the warehouse in due time, just... not right now.

Great! It brought back pleasant memories of Star Blazers(I am unsure what the original title was).
