Description

3D is a great medium for hobbyist artists like me because you can edit stuff and improve on things over time and catch errors and fix them easily too. Here I am progressively improving upon my M103 tank model in bits over time, and I can't get over how much the little details add up to an impressive model! :wow:

In this tall image-spread I'm focusing on details that I felt were important for an accurate representation of my canon, and not so canon M103 heavy tank designs. The wheels were something that I thought I had gotten right when I first began this project, but comparing the third panel with the second panel, and even more-so comparing the fourth panel with the second and you can see a big difference in appearance of the wheel hubs, with the second panel being the most accurate of the bunch.

Lower down I begin to focus more on the weapons on my replica. The commander's supplementary machine gun would ordinarily be an M2 Browning 50cal, however since my tanks aren't exactly to OEM spec, I figured I'd upgrade the guns as well so the tank commander gets a General Dynamics' GAU-19B "GECAL50" Gatling action rotary heavy machine gun.

The gunner's coaxial weapons have also been upgraded from a typical twin Browning M2 to a single Browning with a 30mm auto-cannon to deal with APCs, infantry, trucks and other soft to medium-hard targets that would be a waste of main gun munitions.

Speaking of main gun.. The conventional fully rifled 120mm M58 gun is replaced with a very fanon concept rifle that has a smooth bore for 95% of the length of the tube, while the last 5% features special rifling that mimics a certain big brand air rifle in concept. =D Again blame hubby for all of these gun details... :XD:

Anyhow the last thing to be improved upon was the M103's ass, specifically the armored doors to the engine bay. They now feature a thickly framed armored grill that can be found on some M60 tanks, and whether or not this is typically accurate for an M103 I am not sure, but it does look pretty nice so I'm using it.

And if anything these won't be the last upgrades to my model. Time will reveal to me more flaws or inconsistencies the more I work on it so more random spam is in store for the future. Incidentally, my M48A5 model will also receive some of the improvements seen here with my M103, so a 3Dwarehouse update is in store too.

Whoa....this to me is what would've happened if the US Army & USMC were to use this tank instead of the M60.
